We are looking for 3 student interns to work with the Veditum team across 2 of our projects – India Sand Watch (ISW) & Kolkata Change Makers (KCM).

These are 2 month internships that have to be undertaken in the months of May-June 2026. See more details below.

About the projects:

India Sand Watch (ISW)

India Sand Watch (http://sandwatch.in) is an environmental accountability project with an open-data platform at its heart, enabling collection, annotation & archiving of data related to sand mining in India, identifying spatial and temporal trends.

The platform also works as a capacity building tool for persons who wish to act towards conservation – through local activism, media action, legal action, research and more.

Kolkata Change Makers (KCM)

Kolkata Change Makers is an initiative being anchored by Veditum. A community of change makers in and from the city of Kolkata is being nurtured, with opportunities for learning, cross collaboration, and access to spaces & resources being made available.

Role 1 | Visual Storytelling with ISW

We are looking to hire 2 interns for this role. The role involves working with existing data, reports, images, videos etc. as well as sourcing relevant media to create visual storytelling outputs for communications & social media, learning and outreach material etc.

Individuals with a background/experience in multimedia, visual communication, content creation, video editing and similar fields will be given preference.

Engagement Type & Duration:

This is a 2 month full-time internship for students currently enrolled at an Indian university or those who may have finished their latest degree since the year 2025. This is a remote / WFH position, and you will be expected to work during the office hours i.e. 10am to 6pm | Monday to Friday.

Work months: May – June 2026

Internship Details:
  1. A week of familiarising yourself with:
    • The issue of river sand mining and project India Sand Watch
    • Team Veditum & India Sand Watch
    • Storytelling/narrative styles in our existing material/content.
  2. Working with material provided to you (videos, images, reports, data etc.), you will edit and produce visual storytelling content under the guidance of the ISW team for communications & social media, learning and outreach material etc.
Skills needed:
  • Basic video editing skills and/or visual design skills
  • Familiarity with editing tools like Da Vinci Resolve, Affinity, Canva.
  • Ability to tell stories through visual formats such as videos, infographics, posters, etc
  • Ability to source and work with available, relevant material.
  • Patience to work with large or multiple files.
  • Ability to work as a team and with volunteers, as well as independently.
  • Creativity, ability to take direction, and self-motivation to produce the final output in the required form.

Role 2 | Operations at KCM

We are looking to hire 1 intern for this role.

The role involves supporting the team at the Veditum office, performing administrative tasks and providing assistance with projects as needed, note taking, documenting events, archiving and distributing various media, and interacting with the Kolkata Change Makers community and networks.

Individuals from varied backgrounds are welcome, with preference towards people with experience in one or more of the following: operations / community interaction / event management / communications / documentation / archiving / publishing.

Engagement type & Duration:

This is a Kolkata based 2 month full-time internship for either students currently enrolled at an Indian university or those who may have finished their latest degree since the year 2024. This is an in-office position, where you will be expected to work during regular office hours i.e. 10am to 6pm | Monday to Friday, as well as some evenings and weekends for events and workshops.

Work months: May – June 2026

Responsibilities:
  1. Since this is an operations role, your learning will happen on the job. The first few days will be to familiarise yourself with work done as part of Kolkata Change Makers and broadly by Veditum. You will be guided by the Veditum/KCM team.
  2. Assist with filing / data entry of documents, and other administrative work.
  3. Assist with printing, as well as packaging and distribution for various projects and events.
  4. Assist in event management; setting up all the needs for an event, like getting together collateral, refreshments, supplies etc. as needed.
  5. Documentation, taking notes and photos during events & meetings hosted at our office or at external venues.
  6. Observe systems and processes, learning how a small organisation runs a community.
Skills needed:
  • For this multifaceted role, we’re looking for someone who is self driven, likes to stay on their feet, finds it rewarding to keep things organised, is enthusiastic about listening and documentation.
  • A displayed knowledge and practice of organisation and documentation skills. E.g: Previous experiences in event or space management, organising, archiving, journaling as documentation.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A knack for turning observations into engaging stories.

Remuneration:

The remuneration for our interns will be ₹10,000 per month.
